Being mostly indifferent to photographers, babies are an ideal subject for natural portraiture, and the only real challenge is the fact that they’re in constant motion. In terms of practicalities, cute clothing helps - I expect you know what your child looks best in - dress them in that. Or, if you're tired of waiting for Halloween to dress your daughter as a giraffe, here's a good excuse.

Colby and Grandma

Young Colby, here seven months old, relaxing in Sun River, Oregon with his grandma.
Archie
July 9, 2010
Ah, it’s none other than the young Archibald John Frost – along with his father, Jason. For the later shots I suppose other photographers would have gone to the trouble of wiping Archie’s nose; here I follow a vérité approach with the hope of embarrassing him more fully when he’s older.
The Coopers
April 27, 2010
A business trip to San Francisco provided me the opportunity to drop in on my old high school friend, Philip Cooper, and his family in San Mateo, CA. Had a wonderful time! Was once again reminded how just a few degrees of latitude makes such a startling difference to the quality of light.
Saoirse

Little Saoirse Maria Finn, born March 23rd and not yet three weeks old in these pictures, with proud parents Sonia and Derek.
Julia and Colby
March 24, 2010
Little Colby – now four months old – and his Mom, both at home and outdoors on Saturday. Contrary to popular belief, bright sunshine makes for challenging photography – I think indoors worked a lot better.
