Cowboys and Cowgirls

September 17, 2010

You can ride horses in Sun River, if you dare saddle-up with the gnarly Sheriff. Or you can take pictures instead.

Some favorite pictures from beyond the pool, the villa and the village…

Villa Pia

July 2, 2010

We had a wonderful stay at Villa Pia, quite beyond the swimming pool! To be honest I didn’t imagine it was even possible to feel relaxed on holiday with children until our friends Jason and Jane booked us in here… I even learned how to make a latté!

Lippiano

June 29, 2010

Lippiano, a small village on the Tuscan / Umbrian border, about half an hour East of Arezzo (map) was our home for a week in mid May.

At the Pool

June 26, 2010

Ethan plunges into the pool at Villa Pia in the Umbrian hills… difficult to imagine a more perfect spot for a dip.

Lewes

June 17, 2010

You can take the boy out of the town, but… England’s Hotel California, according to my good friend Jason Frost.

The Bluebell Railway

June 16, 2010

A family outing to the Bluebell Railway and an opportunity to experience the golden age of steam. Apparently it wasn’t such a golden age, as the steam train broke down and we had to be hauled back by diesel locomotive. Still, all ridiculously beautiful and lovingly preserved.

Brighton Beach

June 15, 2010

We squeezed in two trips to Brighton’s seafront during our ten days back home. The now familiar sensation of everything being at once prosaically familiar and startlingly exotic took hold. Ethan particularly enjoyed the Palace Pier and the Brighton Rock.

Serendipity in San Francisco

May 1, 2010

A little bit of unintended magic enhances these two tourist shots from San Francisco…

To the left the word “cat” appears on the boats prow, framed by the railing. In the shot from the cable car, I didn’t see the reflected arrows at the time I pressed the shutter.
